Why a customer profile needs to be real-time
A customer profile is only as useful as it is current. When a system reads a profile to decide what to do in the moment, data from yesterday describes a customer who has already changed.
A profile is read to act
A profile is not an archive. Something reads it to decide what to show, send, or offer. The value of that decision depends on how well the profile matches the customer at the moment it is read, not at some point last night.
What staleness costs
A profile updated overnight describes who a customer was yesterday. If they have since changed what they are looking for, a system reading the old profile acts on the wrong picture: it recommends what they already bought, or misses the intent they are showing right now.
What real-time changes
When a profile updates as behavior happens, the activity from seconds ago is already in it. A system reading it responds to the current visit rather than the last one. That is the difference between a profile that records the customer and one a product can act on while they are still there.
